A couple from Iroquois Falls, northern Ontario, has won the $70-million Lotto Max jackpot on their very first try. Jennifer Stuart-Flynn and Kyle Murray held the winning ticket from the August 20 draw. The couple, who recently welcomed a newborn, were overwhelmed with emotion, particularly at the thought of providing a better future for their children.
Murray, originally from the U.S., had never purchased a lottery ticket in Canada before. He bought the ticket on Stuart-Flynn’s request while waiting at Timmins airport. After discovering they won, Stuart-Flynn was initially in shock and had to verify the win several times before informing Murray.
The couple plans to use their newfound wealth responsibly. Stuart-Flynn hopes to buy her sister a home, while they also envision purchasing land for a small farm with chickens and a highland cow. The Lotto Max jackpot will reach a record $80-million in the next draw, as no winner emerged from Friday’s draw.
